Meet a Star Sitter: This is Ella!

Ella is one of our experienced nannies and is currently studying engineering and commerce alongside her work for Peas in a Pod. Her first experience working with children was during her time as a boarding house matron in the UK. She describes herself as energetic and friendly and spends her free time playing sport, cooking and doing arts and crafts.

How were you introduced to Peas in a Pod and what is your role? How long have you been working with your family?

I was introduced to Peas in a Pod by knowing Emma. I am both a nanny and a babysitter. I have been nannying one family for just over two years.

If you had full control in planning a day with the kids you nanny, what would you do?

In the morning I’d go to the park or go to a place the kids wanted to visit (i.e. zoo, indoor playground) and be home to have lunch. Then [we would] play a board game, do a puzzle or read books after lunch. Then depending on age, they would either have a sleep or we sit down and watch a short movie. Then afternoon tea before having another play outside and then dinner!

What’s something you do to go above and beyond for your nannying/sitting/tutoring family?

I make sure their house is clean by vacuuming, doing the dishes and doing the washing so the parents don’t have to worry about it when they get home from work.

What do you find most rewarding about your job? What's something you've learnt through doing this job that you have been able to apply to other areas of your life?

To help kids develop and see them grow up is very rewarding. I have developed the ability to interact effectively with all different types of people from kids, to parents to extra curricular activities instructors which has really helped in my life.

What/who inspired you to work with children? Why?

I went on a gap year where I worked in a boarding house so coming back to Melbourne, I wanted to keep looking after kids.

What is your favourite thing about Peas in a Pod?

The flexibility to find a family and hours that suit you but also have the reliability that if you want work you will be able to have some. The people are all lovely too.
